Backgammon Premium is the top-rated Backgammon game on the App Store. It offers a comprehensive online experience with background match-making and two different ways to play online: turn-based gameplay or live games via Game Center. The game allows you to challenge your friends, compete against random opponents, strive for leaderboard glory, and earn achievements.
The game has received high praise from reputable sources. MacWorld recommended it as a top download for your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad in their November 2010 issue. Appaddicts.com gave it a stellar review, scoring it 9 out of 10 stars and referring to it as the "creme-de-la-creme" of Backgammon games. Additionally, it was nominated for "best dice game of 2009" in the Best App Ever Awards hosted by bestappever.com.
Backgammon has a rich historical background, originating in Persia and reaching Britain during the Roman conquest. It was even played by Emperor Claudius, who had a playing board in his carriage. The game's popularity grew to the point where it became illegal under the Roman Republic due to its association with gambling.
Building on this historical foundation, Backgammon Premium offers six visually pleasing and diverse board designs: Egyptian, Roman, Medieval, Victorian, Modern, and Classic.
The game also includes two classic variations: "Old English" and Nackgammon. "Old English" is currently the most popular variation in England, while Nackgammon is a more challenging variation that adds greater creativity and skill to the game.
In addition to its online capabilities, Backgammon Premium supports local multiplayer through Bluetooth Peer-to-Peer support. This allows you to play with your friends over Bluetooth without needing an internet connection. The game also offers single-player modes with three difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, and Hard.
Other notable features include match support, allowing you to play to 3, 5, 9, or 15 points with Doubling, and the use of the Crawford Rule. The game also provides move-assist functionality, which highlights available moves and unlimited "Undo" in single-player games. Extensive game statistics are also available for players to track their progress and performance.
